Star-Crossed Lovers

So Far and Yet so Close

"Tell me the story about how the sun loved the moon so much he died every night to let her breathe."

Long ago there was a man with the most unusual name: Sun.

Many did not understand his name for neither did he. After awhile he began to despise his name and all the ridicule that came with it. Until he met the most ethereal girl. Her hair glistened in the light that made it seem white. Her name was Moon. He began to love her. More than just for her beauty. Her flaws and imperfections also made her who she was. And she loved him too. One day, other forces threatened to separate them. They ran off together. Unfortunately the more they ran, the more hunted they became. He did everything in his power to protect her. On a bleak night, he failed to save them both. He perished while she remained.

That night seemed to be too much for her and she fell into a deep sleep. She awoke the next morning in hopes it was all a nightmare. And even with her worst fear being true, when she stepped outside she felt lighter. Like she could float in the air. The day seemed brighter. She could breathe. She sensed him in the world around her. In everything, she could see only him. However when night came she struggled to keep control. She felt reality slipping from her. That night she perished as well. So Sun and Moon had died. Their souls had become part of the glory the Universe created. He, The Sun and she, The Moon. Neither could be together at the same time.

He got the days and she got the nights. He shone brighter in hopes she could see him, to feel his warmth and they could be together again. Some times the days grew longer because he thought if he stayed as long as possible, he might get a glimpse of her and her beauty once more. So he could see her, his love once again. At night she beamed with the light of his love. Though she wanted nothing more than to be with him, she had to embrace it. To breathe once again. She had to continue in hopes she and he could be reunited.

Sometimes, the world for a fleeting moment allows them to meet in their stunning eclipse so frightfully beautiful the whole world stops to watch. Moments when dawn is breaking you can see the painful war of her having to leave when he is so close. Her tears dot the night sky in the stars we love. His screams for her take form of the clouds we watch. So, just like the day and just like the night, he first left her. He loved her then, and he loved her still. Every night he had to die again to let her live.

Emily Valdez

Some of my posts are from when I was full of teen angst. I wrote mostly through the roller coaster of a relationship like all teens have at one point. Some other stuff is newer and less dark. Hope you give it all a chance. Happy reading.
