Connect

The internet can connect us more than ever in this technological era.

Or distance us.

Whatever comes first.

For example, you can't talk to someone a thousand miles away face-to-face.

But you can online.

You can't block someone out of your life face-to-face.

But you can online.

It all depends on how you view it.

Me being raised in a conservative Christian home, my parents told me not to trust anyone online.

If you can't see their face, then they're not a real person, right?

Wrong.

They're as real as you and me.

Even the pedophiles and catfishers.

They have feelings.

And they can get hurt.

I know this because we have feelings and we can get hurt.

*****

I like Christian Hip-Hop, ergo I follow lots of them on Twitter. I've heard their music, I've seen their posts, I've tasted their tears and felt their pain.

I've known them for months.

They're like brothers to me.

But there's a little problem.

Some of these guys are in college; you'd think they'd think cliques were overused cliches and wouldn't conform to that crap.

No.

They have their clique rules.

You need to look like us

You need to act like us.

You need to have the same talents like us.

Only then can you become one of us.

They aren't aware of this, it's not like Mean Girls, it's more subconsciously.

What did we do wrong?

Do we need to buy more merch?

Attend more concerts?

Is that what we have to do for you to notice us?

To be accepted?

Yes, I've contacted them before, directly messaged and emailed. They know my Skype, some even know my phone number, I've told them that repeatedly.

But do they know me?

I don't know...

Maybe.

Sometimes they talk about this imaginary fourth wall and how they "crash" through it to be more close to the audience, they're honestly doing a suck-ish job at it.

What I don't think they understand is you can't just be close with the audience; you have to intimately bond with each individual, you'll be surprised how many people really get where you're coming from.

You can't say you appreciate your supporters then act like they never support you.

Sync your words with your actions.

We're real.
