Spitting Seeds

Poem One in the "Lemon" Series

i love eating raw lemons

because i know i deserve it.

clean my cuts with lemons.

blind my eyes with lemons.

You can wear a new color,

But walk with the same shades.

i would smile if i had a face,

but it faded under the exposure.

now it’s just a layer of skin

so clever it makes you think I’m better.

but i’m scared i’ll be spitting seeds forever.

i try to be better;

i try to smile and mean it.

i try to smother

myself in your chest.

i try to be good.

god knows how they all are.

how they fall yet stand

again stronger than before,

sewing their scars up with lavender

while i’ll be here… spitting seeds.

how are they

so

sweet?

why am I

so

sour...

it rains,

i do too.

it rains,

you bloom.
