Sparks from the Burning City

Maybe you shouldn't smoke them

Maybe you should move away from me

I'm getting enough secondhand smoke

from the ever-brightening orange glow

from across the bay

See how the sparks from the burning city

carry on the night breeze from across the water

and land in no particular order

on our cheeks

and softly singe our skin

and accentuate the reflection

of the smoldering city

in our eyes

Would you like your very own

glowing ember?

Would you like to celebrate

the finale of all we've become?

Here, there's one match left

to

burn
