They Shock You

A jolt through me when I see the date.

A day that comes and goes for most,

but for us.

It's a shock.

One year ago I helped you pack the car.

And you drove away.

And it was the right choice.

We weren't happy.

I wasn't me.

But that doesn't mean I stopped loving you.

A moment passes and I am eyes glued to the date again.

Wondering if your voice still sounds like that

And if you wonder about mine?

Do you still like walking to get coffee every morning?

Do you still sleep with you hands tucked under the pillow?

I guess it doesn’t matter.

Because I still have the memory of us.
