Sonnets
Two sonnets, written by me, inspired by Simon Armitage's 'Poem.'
To save herself she often lied.
To help herself she would sometimes hide.
To be honest or not she could never decide.
Until one day she broke down and cried.
She would sometimes steal a quid or so
but she’d deny it, would just say no.
To school, she would never go.
She felt terrified but it would not show.
She never got in on time was always late.
She seemed to give off an air of hate.
She could never time keep or remember the date.
She had one wish, she just wanted a mate.
Although she always lived with hope;
She never really learnt how to cope.
And when her husband punched her in the face
she realised she had acted in haste.
And her daughter, she wished she could have saved.
And now they’re both gone, what a waste.
And she holds her head up and walks with pride.
And negative thoughts she puts aside.
And she knows deep down that she really tried.
But nevertheless, they still both died.
And now they’re gone, she is all alone.
And her heart feels as heavy and cold as a stone.
And to others, this pain is never shown.
And she can’t get by without methadone.
People will tell you she seems okay;
When in fact all she wants is to run away.
