Sometimes Goodbye

Sometimes one must cut off a finger, in order to save a hand...

We’ve gone over all we can do, think or say

But still, this does not dry the tears for today

We’ve tried and we’ve lied; with our hope, fear, and pain

But still, the sunshine of eyes became rain

We’ve read all the books, and curtailed all the vice

There are just some things you don’t need to hear twice

How do the illusions and facades revolve?

When both hope and patience are sadly dissolved?

Should love keep us smiling? Or is this too a lie?

Why can’t we admit that our passion has died?

Perhaps at the start, we were youngsters and such

But you’re too much like me, for me to like you too much

The sex is routine and the small talk rehearsed

Our quality time should be spent in a hearse

We can’t stand each other, but can’t be alone

Our favorite battlefield once was our home

There hasn’t been laughter in over a year

Neither of us knows how we finally got here

There should be no shame, we gave it our best

Sometimes goodbye is the only thing left

“I’m sorry” means nothing, a valueless kiss

We both know that neither can keep doing this

We’ve gone over all we can do, think or say

The only thing left is to just walk away
