Something Better...

A Poem

The Christmas decorations,

Are coming down...

As the lights seem to fade.

Into the distance,

As this year's memories...

Where our dreams were once made.

While Santa seems to please all of our children...

He can depress us adults just as much.

Leave us waiting, wanting...

Still hoping for our present...

Someone to talk to, to understand...

To feel our touch.

And so it is we approach,

Another countdown to midnight...

With faces shinning again,

At what the new year just might...

Bring in to our lives...

A change, something new...

Something better than this year...

For me...

Maybe you?

37 years, 37 New Years...

Fair to say smiles, outdid the tears...

And mistakes have been made!

Maybe a few...

Still...

Out with the old...

In with the new.

Maybe something better for me.

Is something better for you.

Another ending to this year's love.

Although I tried it didn't last.

Still I can't move into the future...

With one foot still in the past.

This old heart has been patched up...

I've found the glue...

I found something better for me...

Could be something better for you.

Happy New Year to you...

I hope there's a smile on your face.

As a million white feathers of wishful wonder.

Float inside destiny's wind of grace.

For I've been around this block...

More than a time or two.

Long enough to understand...

Something better is out there for me...

There's something better for you.

Something better is out there for me.

There is something better for you.
