Society's Secret

A grave mistake.

Society made a grave for me and told me to kill the person I was.

Every joke, every stereotype, everything expected of me was a hand gripped with dirt being thrown onto my casket

Nobody left flowers for the identity left in the coffin

A nameless grave stone, no description

Who was the person you buried?

You didn’t let the world find out

Little by little i will break the chains of expectations that hold me down

I have survived eighteen years buried under heavily constructed deception

I will escape the cemetery of well-kept secrets

I will not allow for myself to deteriorate and for all to be left,

A skeleton of what could’ve been

I will show the world what they tried to snuff out

I will guarantee they’ll regret it

Because trying to kill a single flame will only ignite a fire in me.

I am bright and yes I will burn

But after all, they say a Phoenix rises from the ashes

Society made a grave mistake and that will not be kept a secret.
