Societal Chains
A poem about how society has such a strong grip on us. Body, thoughts, feelings — all of it.
Having people tell you what you should want, what you should be, what you should look like, and how to behave introduces doubt, fear, and a sense of worthlessness
Feeling broken and powerless with every word that is spit from their mouths
Wanting to block out their words, but being consumed on all sides makes any move nearly impossible
After a while, all of their hate, pain, anger, and fear begins to seep in you like a virus looking to devour every part of you
Finding a cure is hard enough for people who are relatively sane but for someone with mental illness
Every moment of the day can be a battle in itself
When does the battle end?
When does the gasping for each breath come to an end?
Hoping each breath will come as steady as the concrete underneath your feet
Praying for a peace you aren’t even sure exists
Tomorrow can’t come soon enough
Tomorrow has to be better, right?
