You feel the snap,
Feel the moment when things become untethered.
In the briefest of seconds,
Everything changes.
You saw the signs.
The stretches,
The lack of taut.
You thought you had more time.
Thought one more time couldn't hurt.
All it takes is one tug.
One movement that pulls too hard.
Snap.
You feel the slackness
And the emptiness where there should be support.
You don't want to look because you know what you'll find.
But you do it anyway.
In between your fingers is a limp black line.
What was once an elastic circle now lies broken.
It leaves behind a void in its absence.
You feel that snap resonating deep in your heart.
Another good hair stretchy bites the dust.
