Skin Deep

"They called her beautiful..."

They called her beautiful

She smiled

They said she was amazing

She smiled

How could she believe it to be true when all she sees are images of women looking more than splendid.

They called her a friend

She smiled

They claimed it wasn't pretend

She smiled

How could she believe it when such loneliness ate away at her heart, when her head claimed it was lies.

They called her strong

She smiled

They called her an inspiration

She smiled.

She opened her door locked it behind her, unzipped her happy skin, hung it with the rest and fell apart, she was home and they would never know her battle.
