Six and Then Some

A Poem About Love and Loss

Black Walnut shell, Juglans nigra

One just made sense,

Two came of twilight.

Three diffused everything.

Four held another

Five got lost in moonlight.

Six was 1,000 miles away.

We endured thunder,

Sat on the side of a mountain

And played tug of war.

We changed something significantly,

Burnt ourselves to the ground

And howled around the ashes.

We made a giant mess of ourselves.

Lessons learned,

relearned and misunderstood.

Seeds cast into the wind.

A drought, an eclipsed full moon in endless winter.

Shadows cover the valley

Even still, the coyote howls

A crow feather

Hides a salamander

The rush of a waterfall

Drowns out the roaring lion

The sun sets on the horizon.

Listen,

A whisper,

The moon

full

And you,

Ready.
