Singing Heart

Like crashing waves

Washing feelings onto the shore

Feelings that cannot be enclosed

In any container

For any period of time,

We end our day

In another world

A world that only you and I can enter

That we created together

And only exists

Between the two of us

Before we must depart

We say goodbye

With an everlasting greeting

Our feelings swirl around

Like the clouds during a storm

Lightning strikes the evil away

Thunder follows to heal the broken

Strong arms of indestructible steel

Wrap around me

Protecting me from the dangers of the world

With my self-conscious hands clinging

Never wanting to let go

I know there will never be an end

And then you catch me

By almost surprise

With a hand on my chin

And lips pressed against mine

The world around us melts away

And all the hate we know

Dissipates into nothingness

As we seal the bond between our hearts

I can almost hear the birds

Cawing as they spread their wings in flight

The waves

Crashing against the sand at our feet

And the full moon stares down

From a clear starry sky

Beaming with hope

As we linger in each other’s arms

Marveling at how this came to be

And then it ends all too quickly

The real world comes back to taunt us

As we snap back to reality

We hesitantly say goodbye

Though we know we will be

Together the next day

Schedules and undesired circumstances

Drag you away against your will

And my feet are unwillingly

Yet firmly planted

Against concrete floor

While my eyes are forced

To watch you leave

You have no idea how tightly

I squeeze my pillow at night

Wishing to see you next to me

And hear your voice

I miss your arm around my shoulder

One hand stroking my hair

I miss being able to lean on you

And let you guide me through trouble

I miss your reassuring words

That everything will be okay

I miss you gently whispering in my ear

That you love me more than I’ll ever know

I miss you every waking minute

And every sleeping hour

That you aren’t by my side

But most of all I miss your smile

And the soft lips that express your love for me

In more ways than one

And then the next morning

I see you again

My heart flutters at the sound of your voice

Melts every time you chuckle softly

And and pounds to the beat of our song

Every time you pull me close

I know in my heart

That you’re the one

Who will set me free

And be there for me until the end

If there even is an end

And I know that you and I

Will love each other

And fight for each other

No matter what

So with interlocked hands

Once more I’ll confess

Without a shred of shame

Or room for regret

I love you Ethan

And don’t you forget.
