Sigh On

Don't let anyone tell you what you are.

I thank you, sir, for all you have done

For me over the past few years.

The endless comments of how I will never

Amount to anything. I faced my fears

When you said that I am nowhere near

The standard I need to get by.

When you laughed when I dreamt

My goals, making me cry

Out with anguish wondering how

I’d be the person you wanted

Me to be. Quality was never an issue;

Just from me never expected.

It’s a wonder how I turned out this way.

You said ‘a nobody’ but the world disagreed.

So while you sit in your home,

I’m out there planting my seed

Into this world.

Watching my life flourish

As people call my name, as I did yours,

But I relieve them from their anguish

And let their dreams become realities.

So sigh on, sir, sigh on.

Whilst I am known

You are forgotten.

Maybe one day I shall visit

And keep you company,

But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Welcome to my monopoly.
