Showers

We can’t wash away the pain.

Turn the water on

Turn the lever til it's hot, it's hot

Step into the stream

And revel in the pain

I try to burn away your name

But it's stuck like a scar on me

It was alright to play in mud when we were young

But as we grow older

We ought to know better that mud comes from rain

We always thought we could run

From the monsters in the tub

But they drag us away

As the water runs downs the drain

Pick up the soap and cloth

Rub away until I'm rough and raw

What is it to be clean?

The dirt of reality

Seems to cause impurities

That stick like a scar to me

It was alright to play in mud when we were young

But as we grow older

We ought to know better that mud comes from rain

We always thought we could run

From the monsters in the tub

But they drag us away

As the water runs downs the drain

It's time to get out

Use the towel, wrap myself round

Dry off until I'm warm

No matter how tight I wind

Somehow the cold will find

Itself through the scars in my heart
