She Puts on a Mask

No one can see.

Inside she's hurting, so she puts on a mask.

She holds it all in because nobody asks.

She smiles through the pain, even when she's hurt.

When she tries to stand tall, she's shoved in the dirt.

She wants to run away and hide from it all.

But she knows no matter where she is she'll always fall.

Inside she feels weak, though she tries to stay strong.

She's been fighting this battle for far too long.

She starts to wonder "why can't they see?"

Then begins to question "what the hell is wrong with me?"

She tries so hard but nobody seems to care.

When she reaches out her hand there's never anyone there.

At night she lies awake, her thoughts won't let her sleep.

She hides in her bed, and quietly she weeps.

Why doesn't anyone see how much she's in pain.

She tries to show them, but it's all in vain.

So everyday she smiles, and puts on her mask

Hoping someone will see, but knowing no one will ask.

She's hurting inside.
