Shadow of a Man

A Letter to My Dad

In my early years, You were always present

I was your little girl, you were my best friend.

We were inseparable

The bond we shared was incredible.

As time passed by

Our lives seemed to go awry.

At the age of 10 my whole world changed.

The family split up and rearranged.

Shortly after you started to fade away.

The older I got the more you found no reason to stay.

Each milestone of my life came but you were nowhere to be found.

You became a phantom that would haunt me

I wondered what did I do wrong?

Then I realized that you just weren't that strong.

You had these issues that caused you to struggle.

You found comfort in bad habits

I knew I had to let you go

I couldn't live with this sorrow anymore

It was your choice to walk out that door

Did you ever look back?

Sometimes I wonder if you think of me

I miss you

What could I do?

I wish I could help you.

I can't help someone who doesn't want it

So until you come to your senses

I'll be moving forward

Maybe in time you'll learn

That it's time for you to return.

But until that day comes

I'll continue waiting for the shadow of a man I once knew.
