Savage (Nowhere to Hide)
"Thump, thump..."
Thump, thump
Can you hear it?
Thump, thump
That’s your savage heart trying to escape your chest
You’ve caged the animal for years for fear of what it would do
You tell yourself that it’s gone for good,
But you’ve felt it, haven’t you?
Slowly eating at your feeble sense of morality,
like a termite gnawing at the foundation of a scarred manor.
Remember that time you wanted to go to town on that whore?
Or that time you wanted to bash that bastard’s brain in?
No, you say? Tsk, tsk. Denial is a river and you’re drowning in it!
Drop your Golden Boy act. You know that’s not how the world works!
You know that if you extend a helping hand to man,
he’ll rip that hand off and shove it down your throat!
Darkness is a virus that spreads through the veins of every newborn
and spreads through the ages, always festering.
No one can hide from it. And what about light?
It gives you false hope, jangles the keys in front you and rips it out of sight.
The sun goes down, lifting the veil to show the world its true color:
Black.
The light blinds your eyes, and you know it.
Take off your mask, gnash your teeth, and let yourself howl.
Thump, thump.
Can you feel it?
The beast is emerging.
