Rose-Colored Lenses

Remove your blinders and take a hard look at who you've become.

Through rose colored lenses,

You see a world you wish existed.

It’s more than you imagined,

Careless and listless you float...

Wishing the world could see all you’ve imagined.

A place of contentment,

But it only last for a very short second, especially compared to the length of your life.

Your mind believe’s it should last forever,

You crave more than just another puff,

Searching behind closed doors for the potion you seek.

The worlds on fire, but you cannot see.

Vision becomes more blurry with each swallow,

Smoke fills your lungs,

Stains on your teeth,

Blood on your clothes,

Bandages cover your arms,

You’re not the same person who use to have a vision.

And you refuse connection,

Hiding from people who miss you.

Continuing your search for...

Your serenity.

That you have not found,

Yet you’ve looked up and down.

No experience the same as the one before,

But they were all worth enough for you to continue your search.

They kept you hungry,

And you walk without noticing the world around.

The seasons keep changing,

You’re only aging.

Take a step back, look in the mirror.

You’ll see,

A soul within you screaming to come out.

Your appearance is fading,

The lines on your face run deep after every taste,

You try to find a way out,

Trapped in your mind, no more places to hide.

It’s just you and yourself, you’ve forgotten everyone else.

Still clinging to the thing you’ve given it all for.

But when the high runs out,

Please come down.

I’ll hold you in my arms, you do not have to run any longer.

You still have time, forget what you wasted.

Life can be sweet,

Life can be kind,

It shouldn’t be wasted.

Bad times will come but the sun has always shone.

Promising another day to grow.

Life is about the ups and downs.

Life is about all we make it to be.

Life can be...

Serenity.
