life is like a River
She pulls us all along at her pace
a speed as seemingly stagnant or rushing as She pleases
and you too
are pulled deep inside the riptide
your levies are straw and dams turn to skipping stones
as She forces Her course
and your johnboat sinks to the silt
fight and scream if you’d like
protest Her ambivalence and boil your blood
only to drown and descend under the weight in Her billows
but surrender to Her swells
and let Her currents carry you
until you finally resurface
shining and speckled
in rest.
