A Battle Poem

As Darkness fell across the land,

They knew their time was close at hand,

The time to fight,

The time to win,

The greatest battle would now begin.

They marched towards the battlefield,

With Axe, or Bow, or Sword and Shield,

Some were bold,

Some were nervous,

But all were ready to serve their purpose.

As they reached their final scene,

They saw the dark and evil queen,

Consuming like fire,

Cold as ice,

All of her beauty could not suffice,

To make up for her evil ways,

She'd made the villagers work for days,

With little water,

Left unfed,

Many of them had wound up dead.

So now rebellion led them here,

And with one last ferocious cheer,

Flags bared,

Arms at the ready,

They pushed forth into battle, sure and steady.

So the fighting then began,

Axes thumped and swords went "clang,"

As heads rolled,

Good men fell,

But Bad men were dwindling as well.

One good man was leading the crew,

With hair that shone a golden hue,

He was brave,

He was fast,

He kept on pushing, until at last,

He reached the nasty queen of doom,

The causer of all their woe and gloom,

This was it,

This was the end,

All lives, on this, did now depend.

He took a breath, and charged full force,

His sword swung strong and sure its course,

It sliced her neck,

She lost her head,

At last the wicked queen was dead.

Across the kingdom all were glad,

A grand feast and party was soon had,

And the young man who saved the day,

Renowned for his triumphant swing,

Our Golden hero was made king.
