Remember He Loves You

Do lose sight of that.

if you're the girl that cries after sex,

as your body trembles,

your hands grasping his shirt,

squeezing as tightly as you can

as the waves of anxiety

crash over you again

and again—

remember that he loves you.

if you’re the girl who gets angry

when the wind doesn’t blow your way,

when the blood underneath your skin

boils with rage

and you say something you know

you're going to regret,

remember that he loves you.

if you're the girl who gets jealous

when he wants to hang out with his friends,

let him.

remember that he still loves you.

if you're the girl who worries

that he might not love you tomorrow

because you're you,

remember that he loves you

in spite of your flaws;

remember how much you love him;

remember the butterflies in your belly

when he smiles at you.

remember the goosebumps on your arms

when his fingertips touch your skin.

remember the softness of his voice

when he whispers in your ear;

i love you.

he's patient with you.

he’s gentle with you.

he’s warm.

he understands.

remember he loves you.

don’t second guess it

he’s here.

he’s present.

stay here with him.

he still loves you

even when you think he doesn't

even when your chest aches

and you can't breathe

he loves you.
