Release Me

Release Me

Won’t you release me, you won, won’t magnanimity rule your heart as calamity dwells in mine?

Won’t you allow me to grieve and mourn, a time when you knew me, remembered me?

Won’t you take the shackles off me, the ones I flung at your feet while you danced away?

Won’t you pray all the gods disappear from my memories, won’t you abandon my dreams, won’t you not haunt my waking thoughts?

Won’t you resign the authorship of my nightmares and most precious hopes, won’t you quit coming around every corner, heaving every breathless glance?

Won’t you not patronize my masterpiece, won’t you blink and return the stars to form, won’t you shade your smile and let me sleep?

Won’t you gather your easy spoils, war won never in doubt, won’t you grant clemency to a tired, trodden soul?

Won’t you gift me my closure, won’t you dash my hopes for eternity, won’t you dare do what I plead?

Won’t you see me forget every touch, won’t you let me forget every declaration, won’t you leave me my whispers?

Won’t you release me, you won, won’t you at last win me my freedom?
