Reflections Through a Window

A Poem

In the reflection of a window,

Stands a girl.

She is looking through the glass into the night.

Her warm hand resting against the cool window,

Pressed up against the window,

Feeling the coolness of the glass.

Watching the water droplets drip on the glass,

Racing each other to the bottom.

A man walks up behind her,

Wrapping his arms around her waist.

He rests his head on her shoulder

And stares at her with such admiration.

She smiles and reaches her arm up to caress his face.

He laughs and kisses her neck gently.

The girl turns around in his arms and wraps

her arms around his neck.

Embracing her lover in a sweet kiss.

Outside, another girl is frozen,

Unseen, masked by the shadows.

She is watching the couple

Display their affection.

Each moment sends a sharp pain to her fragile heart,

Slowly breaking it apart and shattering it

Into a myriad of pieces.

Raindrops land on her face mixing in

With salty tears that have fallen from her eyes.

She shakily takes a deep breath,

More tears slipping out,

Processing what he’d done.

Before walking off into the abyss of the yellow streetlights,

Tearing him from her heart

As He tore hers,

Apart.
