Red: The Love Poems by Leah James

I sit...

I sit;

I wait

again

for minutes. Four months

would understate

the length of

time

that I hurt…

Confused and angry

but kind, just kind

enough to forgive

and forget

the silence;

a silence

that still

lingers in my ear

as “nothing”…

whispering, “nothing”

a somber speech of only

the truth.

With you

I am emptiness...

of air. No,

empty like a

void so wide

that sparrows

drinking from

my disemboweled cup

only find the

dry heat of the

desert you

left me with…

Nothing…by text message

lovin’ all of you

and you none

of me.
