Realization

When reality hits, it can be devastating and comforting.

I once believed that a community

Was a thing deserved by every human.

I would use any opportunity

To join this idiotic illusion.

At one time I thought that I could have friends.

At one time I sought a life worth living.

But, like all good dreams, this one ends

With a lesson most unforgiving.

The dream ends, and my eyes start to open.

As I awaken, I realize my fears

Are true and amassed to see me broken:

Remembering all of those wasted years.

I no longer regret the days gone by,

But I calmly wait for the day I die.

About the Creator

Josh Evitt

I am a former teacher, now a 'mandated retiree'. In 2007 multiple sclerosis entered my life and by 2011, I was disabled. I've never really liked the word, "Disabled." It sounds too permanent. I still hope to come out of retirement.
