Rabbit in the Rain

A Free Verse Poem About Moving On

I froze,

Staring at you,

Terrified.

You drove,

Speeding onward,

Oblivious.

Couldn't move.

Couldn't process.

Couldn't scream.

Wouldn't look.

Wouldn't slow.

Wouldn't stop.

Then the adrenaline,

I had to run,

Had to save myself.

Then the brakes,

You slammed them on,

Skidded in the rain.

Too much smoke,

Too much damage,

Too much pain.

Couldn't see.

Couldn't talk.

Couldn't feel.

It was too late.

There wasn't enough time.

Or was there?

I could've moved.

You could've seen.

Or could've we?

All because I was a scared rabbit,

And the facade crashed in the rain.
