When you’re thinking negative…
When it’s a struggle just to live.
When life don’t make no kind of sense…You’ve had enough of the pretense.
You got no money to your name…
Debts that no honest man can pay.
Troubles coming when each day dawns…Makes you question ‘why you were born.’
Don’t let yourself be a Prisoner Of Your Own Pity…
In this all too consuming little city.
You’re not alone behind those bars…
You’re not alone behind those bars.’
We’re all stuck in the gutter…
But some of us see stars.
You’re feeling lonely…
So alone.
All you wanted was a happy home…
You say you’re tired, don’t want to fight…
So far away, it all seemed so right.
Don’t let yourself be a Prisoner Of Your Own Pity…
In this all too consuming little city.
You’re not alone behind those bars…
You’re not alone behind those bars.’
We’re all stuck in the gutter…
But some of us see stars.
How much time will you waste…
Breathing regret, sorrow and hate.
When there’s hope hanging on every star…
Just don’t be afraid of who you are.
Rise above all that you have lost…
Forget all that you are not.
Now close your eyes and see…
You are all you need to be.
Don’t let yourself be a Prisoner Of Your Own Pity…
In this all too consuming little city.
You’re not alone behind those bars…
You’re not alone behind those bars.’
We’re all stuck in the gutter…
But some of us see stars.
We’re all stuck in the gutter…
But some of us see stars.
About the Creator
Steven Baldry
I have been writing Poetry since I was a teenager. Now in my late thirties I enjoy it more than ever. I find it a wonderful release and it helps me to free my mind and understand myself and my emotions.
