Photograph

A Poem

A faded photograph sits in a dusty frame.

Candid smiles shielded by a thin sheet of glass.

A forgotten memory, preserved forever in its still and lifeless state.

Behind the eyes of the subject, you can see no joy.

You cannot hear the laughter that once shattered the silence, nor feel the light that once shone on those faces.

Only an image remains, slowly disintegrating like the mind of its owner.

But if the image could move and speak of the moment captured in time,

Would it breathe new life into the memory?

Could it sweep the dust off its glass, and explode with colour and sound so vivid it could captivate the minds if the young and the old like they were one and the same?

Would it flood your thoughts with other memories that bubble through the thick walls of forgetfulness, and open your eyes to the things you take for granted?

Maybe...

But it is only a faded photograph in a dusty frame.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.
