Paris

"Paris" was an another one of my assignments for my Creative Writing class. The poem is based on the idea of losing a relationship that had much value to you, and reflecting on the good of the individual whom you were with. Paris is always described as a beautiful place; one of perfection and love running through the streets. But what if Paris wasn't perfect?

Loving you was the simplest thing.

It was as easy as breathing, simple as a smile.

Who knows what we would be if things would have lasted?

Where would we be in the world?

I remember your dreams of Paris, I remember to this day wanting to be by your side through those adventures.

I remember you like your coffee with light sugar, and you always used the cup I made you as a present.

I remember how you liked it when I ran my fingers along your face, how it could put you to sleep.

I remember how you are a master chef, learning how to cook from years of having to fend for yourself.

I remember how talented you are at art, something to this day I have always been jealous of.

I remember how you like to sleep, with your head resting on my chest and your body curled onto mine.

I just wanted to be in Paris with you.

I wanted to watch the twinkling lights from our hometown on our balcony.

I wanted to have fancy dinners of mac and cheese on our kitchen floor.

I wanted to see all of the art that you could create, but mostly the priceless piece that was waking up beside me every morning.

I wanted the fashion, wearing your t-shirts and you in your basketball shorts, not caring what we look like because you loved me regardless.

You and I, we had so many amazing memories together.

Our Paris had it flaws, a few blown light bulbs on the walk along the Seine, but nothing that couldn’t have been fixed.

I wish you wouldn’t have picked Greece over me.
