Pain of the Darkness inside.
Hell's Highway
darkness all around me but nothing to see,
pain a word that doesn't discriminate,
lost within my own hate blinded by fear,
gathers the courage nothing to do,
waiting to cry but all dried up,
seeing nothing but seeing everything,
dying alone nothing else to do,
my troubled past you never will know,
knocking on hell's gate welcomes me home,
sleeping forever no way back,
time will pass but never heal,
chaos and pain just another war,
trembling in hatred nothing more,
wanting to kill that taste for blood,
hell i see beyond shadowy eyes,
darkness to fall where i seek redemption,
nothing to see another victim.

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
