Pain for Pain
As I look at my daughter I wonder
Should I ever share with her the stories of fairytales
You know the ones with the Prince Charming, princess, the magical weddings
I feel those fairytales give a false image of life
But as little girls that grow into adulthood many of us women hold on to that image
It is the heartbreak and the reality that one day that image may be snatched out of our hand
that makes me worried if I should even get her hopes up
Fairy tales show us what love is supposed to feel and look like
No matter what your prince will stay by your side
He will always come and protect you
So we give these standards to little boys along with our heart
Like the books from the moment you catch his eyes
He is supposed to have eyes only for you
But he really has eyes also for Rebecca, Lisa, Kimberly, Tiffany, and maybe John
The prince is always trustworthy
But the man in front of eyes lies as if it's his purpose in life
Then you have the magical wedding that takes place
When you may spend all that money to just get divorced
Let's not forget when you finally start a family with the love of your life
How he’s there for you emotionally and physically
But no he is not there for you and you find out he had three other kids outside the relationship
Fairytales are good when you’re younger, but they can cause damage when you get older
My fairytale dreams have flown out the window and it was heartbreaking watching them fly away
I don't want my daughter to have to deal with pain of her expectations of a fairytale love being shattered
For some they may get that fairytale love, but at times it doesn't happen they way it's told in the books
