Anyone can be a fairy tale villain
Before learning how to
Correctly use words in a way that
Doesn’t harm marginalized people.
Even those with
Far-from hostile intentions are
Given the societal power to
Hate and hurt people who society deems
Invisible and unimportant.
Just our use of language alone can oppress
Kids and adults alike who
Live without the privilege of being a
Man: cisgender, white, and straight.
Nothing will change if
Only those
Perpetrating oppression
Quickly deny our struggles and
Resist necessary education
Simply because
They are more comfortable in their ignorance
Used in their superiority.
Vocabulary means more beyond words
When lives are at stake.
X marks the spot for the
Year where we will let
Zero past us anymore.
