One Last Time...

You say you will wait for me,

But for how long?

When will the tide come,

The waves roll you off the shore into horizons abyss.

You say you will stay with me,

Wherever I will go.

But when the time is spent,

Where will you be to dry the tears off my solemn face?

Will you wait to see my first kiss, my baptism or marriage?

Will you wait 'til I'm a writer, a doctor, or cleric?

Will you?

I don’t think I am ready,

to walk this path alone.

Where no-one will pick me off my feet

And carry me back home.

What if you go too soon?

And leave me all alone.

How will you know when its safe,

To leave me on my own?

Will I see you again?

Or will our paths then end?

So many questions,

Yet I fear the little time.

But you stay strong and firm and happy

When inside my heart is breaking.

Your eyes begin to fill now,

With that glimpse of heaven,

I beg, and beg, and beg.

Just stay a little longer!

I wish I could be like you, Granddad,

Love like you, pray like you, have faith like you.

Please just stay a little longer,

When all is said and done.

Let us leave together, grey and old.

With hearts shining as the sun.

Let me lift the fears I have,

And take them off my brow.

And enjoy each hour, each day I have,

With my angel, my grandpa and chum.

But when everything is said and done,

And an empty body lies in a shallow grave.

I'll know your spirit is free to roam,

With grandma, Mary, and Miriam.

I know you missed them greatly,

I see now why you must go.

Years apart from your loved ones,

Is so painful, lonely and glum.

But promise me this, Granddad,

That you’ll look down on me from above.

Just take some time and pray for me,

To help me see your love.

The cleanest, purest soul I knew,

Who touched the hearts of many.

I thank the lord for this quaint soul,
