One Evening

"Two hours and one-hundred and thirty-six miles separate Curt and Jade..."

Two hours and one-hundred and thirty-six miles separate Curt and Jade.

Poverty, instability, and asphalt keeps his ignition from starting.

136 miles, apart, Curt and Jade are neighbors of the soul.

Why so close, despite being so far?

They met on the internet and decided life was too short not to give it a shot.

One evening can bind two hearts forever.

One evening Curt and Jade had meaningful dialogue.

On one evening, Curt and Jade were bound.

Jade’s laugh lit a lantern in his clouded heart.

The affection in her eyes served as a spark plug for the dead battery in his chest.

Her kiss was the warmest and softest blanket on an otherwise cold bed,

giving life to the dead.

Curt took Jade out to eat and they were the only two people in the room,

despite being in a crowded, but quaint small town burger-joint.

His heart fluttered just by watching her eat.

At the karaoke bar,

he sang a love song with such passion that he hadn’t given in 3 years.

In his mind there was a spotlight in the room.

Not on himself, though he sounded brilliant,

but on the way she looked at him when he sang.

The glisten in her sapphire eyes brought the stars down to earth,

emitting the radiance of an aurora borealis through the bar.

The spotlight seemed to focus on her for eternity.

One evening can tune two notes into the key of perfect harmony,

Sending two spirts to spread amorous vibes into the airwaves.

The end to their night penned the most breathtaking chapter to an open book.

Their conversations wove their spirits together.

Jade’s understanding and openness poured through the scales of Curt’s reptilian ticker,

creating a magnetic force which pulled their lips toward each other.

For once, Curt’s pulse danced to the rhythm of a salsa beat,

replacing the crescendo of a church organ at a funeral.

The nightcap doused Father Time in chloroform

as they held each other in flawless embrace.

He didn’t mind the lightness of his sleep,

for Jade continued to spoon with him in her deep slumber.

With each toss and turn, every movement matched.

On this plane of existence, their bodies melded

and on an another, Jade would not let go,

pulling Curt into the Land of Morpheus.

It is there, it seemed that they grew old together.

Curt awoke and wouldn’t stop holding her, their heartbeats still in tune.

Jade woke up to spark in in his wolf-hide eyes and a good morning kiss.

Father Time then woke up in a fit of rage and smacked them in the face.

She had to go now.

The hug before Jade’s trek home was the longest one in Curt’s existence.

136 Miles now separate Curt and Jade,

but one evening can house love for life.
