one day i will shine.
but today is not that day.
one day i will stretch my bare hands toward the burning sunshine, feeling the fire lick my fingerprints so that i may sear a mark on the dirt of the earth, and finally feel as though i've sunk my feet.
one day i will see beyond the horizon. i will finally swim in the ocean, feel the pull of the sea on my feet.
and i will be as free as the morning breeze.
but today is not that day.
today i watch, and i listen, and i hope.
i witness the ways of the world so that one day i might become them. i watch the sunrise and the sunset, the galloping horses, the blooming flowers, the curling tide, and the gathering storm so that i may be ready for its glorious break.
the storm looms like a predator.
but i am not afraid.
for one day i will shine,
brighter than the imposing clouds,
even brighter than the striking lightning.
