On the Realities of Breaking & Letting Go
A Wet Face and Snotty Sleeves
The stinging eyes, the quickening heartbeat, the dizzy head, the loss of breath, the inability to move into a new space.
The feeling of being so paralyzed, locked jaw, shaky muscles, glazed over eyes.
Racing mind. Thoughts that can’t be released.
Gasps stuck in the throat.
Feel it babe.
Don’t keep it inside.
Open up your chest. Slowly begin the small, shaky breaths into bigger, more relaxed ones.
Blink. Once. Twice. Rub your eyes. Shut them tight, then open them wide.
Look around. Now look around with your head.
Stretch out your neck. Make circles. Slowly. Back and forth.
Open your mouth, your jaw.
Lick your lips. Stretch out your facial features.
More breaths.
If the breaths need to turn into cries, if your eyes feel the need to be watered with your tears, release them.
Feel it. Be angry, be sad, be frustrated.
Now release it.
Let. Go.
Those mental images you’re carrying, the physical pain you’re clinging to, the anxiety that proves to you that you’re experiencing something important...
Let go.
Get a glass of cold water. Drink it. Drink two.
Wet your face with cold water too.
Cleanse it all.
Take a shower if you need to.
You will get through all of this, and you will wake up. And you will live.
