On Going Home

How You Helped Me Find Myself

Upon our engagement

There was this war inside me

An unsettling belief

And it wasn’t until I found you

That I was able to finally see

I was unmarked and raw

Thrown across the stones

Ravaged and broken

And aching in my bones

But you brought me peace

A place to rest my head

You helped me, you held me

You loved me instead

And with my bones mostly healed

Fractured at best

You lifted me, held me

Protected my chest

So the battle I’m fighting

Futile they say

Not knowing I’m holding

Rage in my wake

And come dawn when they see me

Standing, not alone

They’ll realize, they failed

Because you’ve brought me home

About the Creator

D.L Michaels

While sitting in my fifth grade class, tapping my pencil loud enough to drown out the voices... one voice rang through louder than ever. It was my teacher. She told me writing was my destiny. So here I am, fulfilling the prophecy.
