Old-Time Radio and the Mercury Theater

Voices on the Airwaves

I want to tell you about

Old-time Radio and the Mercury Theater

it comes out over the airwaves

cold & drone

w/ scripted precision

& sound effects cheesy

& hard not to believe

some called him cruel

in his brilliance

others cool & calculating

with his new horror show

We're scared of the devils that have

gathered on this

Halloween eve

they have added mischievous sounds

in hope to create his grand design

This is the day the laughter died

Children

the radio contains specimens

the voices of men & women

who call on us to believe their tales

And they are saying

"Forgive the fright

run with us into this Palace of Madness"

(Empty thoughts these souls have got)

I tell you this;

The infernal reward will

reward us now for

mocking the dawn

One morning he awoke

with a parody song blaring

and tuning in the radio...

the voice said:

"Listen to this:

Let me tell you about

Old-time Radio & the Mercury Theater

Driven slowly mad

by some laughing prankster

Reaching into your skull

w/ a cold, sudden furious

devilish message

Let me tell you about

the martian landing & the birth

of a god

Wondering, wondering

throughout the night

The citizens take to the streets

facing their fears

let me show you the aliens

w/ their death ray guns

Out here in the perimeter

people are running like mad

Out here we is scared

Shitless!"

The Voices on the Airwaves

faceless stars from another time

have left us cold

their words in ruins

Rubble

The memories turn to ash

I will turn the page

I will continue on

Run, she says fearfully

a dancing skeleton appears &

moves across the room

amid the scattered ashes

gently they swirl

We'd like to relive

the good old days

We still believe

That there's a way

Words from the Mindless

to a nonsupporting crowd

Forgive but devoured
