Ode to the Biodiversity Islands

May your green hills and blue waves always be around.

Myself and Marcus off the coast of Dominica

Oh lush, budding, green volcanic mountains, how you spoke so gently to me

How your creatures in abundance spoke the true value of nature

How your locals shined and greeted us with bounding hospitality.

Your cerulean waves drifted slowly and majestically toward the shore-

the sea creatures swimming, wading, floating, and weaving out of the rocky forms below.

The coral in all of the colors of the brightest rainbow drifting and swaying in the currents like the palm trees in the calm breeze above-

Oh how I loved your island and miss you as so.

I hope one day I'll return to you—

and see your beauty and glow, Dominica!

How your history, from the local Carib to the Crown

It spans father than anytime that we Americans can take claim

Your vast collection of artifacts left by people from centuries ago—

to be rediscovered and treasured by centuries more.
