Oceanfront Bliss

A Poem

My feet are burrowing in tunnels

Of sand and sea shells.

My toes are getting grains stuck between them.

The waves are crashing,

Trying to jump closer and closer,

But falling before they reach us.

Seagulls are off to the side,

Stalking out left over sandwiches.

When I close my eyes,

I can hear the soft music playing

On my blue speaker and

The wind flipping through the pages

Of my favorite novel.

Above me,

The clouds wouldn’t dare to

Cross paths with the sun,

Whose calming warmth is absorbed

Through my darkening skin.

I open my eyes and he’s sitting beside me,

Squinting out at the water

While some guys are attempting to surf 10 feet out.

His hair sticks up on one side a little.

I laugh as he feels his neck,

Afraid of burning,

For the fifth time in the last twenty minutes.

He glares at me,

But I prop up on my elbows and kiss him.

He smiles and I look back to the water,

Which seems to reach towards the other end of the world.

This,

Is happiness.
