“someone will look into your eyes one day
and they’ll see oceans where he just saw a pupil and an iris.
they’ll find the colors in your eyes that nobody else has seen
the mauve, the crimson, the magenta, the lime
and they’ll all become his favorite colors.
you need to understand this.
not everybody you meet will spot the glitter in your eyes
not everybody you meet will be worth looking into your eyes to begin with.
save it for the one, let him in.
but until then, treat your mind as a jail
except instead of locking people in, you lock them out.
grow a garden inside there
with sun and grass and flowers and bees
and weeds if you like
because it’s your garden
make it your own
weeds can be beautiful.
i remember being young
and picking those yellow flowery weeds out of the garden
to deliver them to my mother
for her birthday once
we made a whole bouquet
she smiled.
weeds are not just weeds
and eyes are not just eyes
nothing is what it is said to be
look further.
you are beautiful
and you are worthy
for darling,
you held oceans in your eyes long before he came along.”
