Not Meant to Be

A Poem

In love is not something I’m meant to be

Even if I want it

Love is a burden from which I am free

Of course I love to a certain degree

But I don’t love a ship when waves are rocking it

In love is not something I’m meant to be

Heartbreak drags us to a place that is beastly

And I have no time to be caught in that pit

Love is a burden from which I am free

I would not recognize if love found me

Because to another I can’t commit

In love is not something I’m meant to be

It’s like a shipwreck that leaves behind debris

Although death is an encumbrance we cannot outwit

Love is a burden from which I am free

I will not board a sinking ship in a tumultuous sea

That pain is one I’d like to remit

In love is not something I’m meant to be

Love is a burden from which I am free
