Nostalgic Necessities

A Poem About Childhood 🌻

Escaping the grasps of society,

We ran the streets of the sombre town,

Unaware of the existence of anxiety,

No sadness in sight, not even a frown.

We’d embrace the open azure ceiling,

Unconsciously trailing through nettles,

Confronting the appallingly tangy feeling,

Until, at last, the pain finally settles.

When the companionable sun

Had pilgrimaged a long way away,

We’d delay the thrill of fun,

And continue the schemes the neighbouring day.

We’d embellish our scrawny knees,

With ribbons and rings of red and lavender.

We’d dance through the summer breeze,

And climb the canopies we hid under.

Among the treetops as high as the skies,

We’d capture the sun in a frame,

to remember the moment after it dies,

oh, it aches to know my life won’t be the same.

But, I can truly say those years were a blast!

From berry fights, to den wars, we accomplished it all!

And, every now and then, we visit the past,

or occasionally, we’ll give him a call.

Now, I indulge in the crisp summer air,

The euphoria of childhood,

Still lingers like a flare.
