Nocturnal Bloom

May the Roots Go Deeper Still

It is sunrays that

Determine the ways

A tree’s roots and limbs will grow

Tall, strong and sturdy enough

To withstand the winds and snow

I once thought that all life

Came from the sun’s light

That none grow without

That night bred death

And would snuff my spirit out

But here in the darkness,

Another truth harkens

As I feel your arms around me

Your roots of warmth extending deep within

Reaching my heart and blooming sweetly

Here in the dark, another light glows

Again my spirit begins to grow

Blossoming into a better being

Brighter, braver, no longer alone

The sun pales in this light that’s gleaming
