Abandoned houses I found on a walk
Another violent night,
Another silent fight.
In these four walls the fire grows,
But it offers no light.
This house is no home.
The fire has grown.
It surrounds her.
Yet it offers no warmth.
Words ricochet,
Like Bullets,
Tear through walls,
Tear through skin.
In this house of cards,
One blow from caving in.
Hidden behind a locked door,
Blinds shut tight.
She tries to keep them out,
But she’s only locked herself inside.
Screams and cries,
Trapped inside this cage,
Cage of wood and glass.
There’s no escape.
She opens the blinds,
Let’s the light flow in.
It picks her up,
Takes her away.
Free from the flames,
That haunted this house.
The fire’s been extinguished,
But the burns remain.
