No More Opposites

A Commentary

In feasting famine, through fickle fact; by arid water and faux-pas tact;

Through fortunate curse and luminous black, we all must learn that opposites attract.

To learn to forget, to smile with rage, to free our own minds from the lack of a cage;

to toil with rest, to fly on your feet, to wave a goodbye to those whom you meet;

To show up on time when on-time is late, to stock up the fridge but leave food on your plate;

To work towards death then cling onto life, to hold tight a lover instead of your wife;

These are the things the world says we need: the anger, the lust, the infinite greed;

The loss, the destruction, the pain, and the press to re-hash the dread lest we all catch our breath.

But opposites, enigmas, paradoxical woes, and other such trouble keeping us on our toes;

They're not worth the effort or stress that we bear; the grinding of teeth or pulling of hair;

Instead we might ponder what else we could do with a moment to think; an intention or two.

What life could be like if we just found a way to bring things in balance, not force them to stay.

Perhaps it is time for the opposite plan; to bring life together, to open our hand;

Rather than clenching to keep what we hold, support our world gently and let it unfold.

Yes opposites attract, or so we all think, and yet here we are, a world on the brink

Of losing our grasp of the best things we clutch, and all because we try to hold them too much.

So rather then forcing two things to be one, let's love them both fairly for what each has done.

No tired achievers, no wandering stares, no work while we play, no frivolous cares.

Just honest to goodness emotion-filled love, for the good and the bad, the below and above.

Here ends a rant of hypocrisy I'm sure, for this end is a beginning, and it's meant to be yours.
