Nightmare

(Poem)

I had a dream last night,

Of kids running around

And laughing loudly

Like there’s no tomorrow.

I had a dream last night,

Where sun rays

Gave me strength

And snowflakes

Gave me warmth.

I had a dream last night,

Where songs played

In the background

And people danced

In the middle of the street

Simply because they were happy.

I had a dream last night,

Of the sea hugging the shore

Every morning,

Sounding like a symphony.

I had a dream last night,

Where lightening struck

To light up the night sky.

But then I woke up,

And I realized that

Those kids grew up

To become miserable

Crying every night

To themselves.

I realized that

Sun rays burned my skin

And snowflakes

Stole my warmth.

I realized that

The streets were full of

traffic and chaos,

And people were too busy

Screaming at each other

To notice the music

Playing in the background.

I realized that

Big waves were crashing

Against the shore

Every morning,

Hiding the beauty

Of the sea.

I realized that

Lightning struck at night

To scare us.

I woke up and I realized that

This life is ugly,

And we’re all living

In the same nightmare.
