Night Skies

Short Story

When I look up at the sapphire skies glistened by the specks of bursting crystals... I feel less alone in this vast planet. Despite how long the day has been nor the tears I have yet to shed...it transfixes my mind to expand beyond myself. I don’t feel the weight on my shoulders it's almost as light as my steady breaths. I can never seem to fall asleep without staring outside my window at the still painting of the moon’s gentle glow. It illuminates the darken room where I lay almost cradling me in its light. The moon was like an old friend that I could tell anything to, even if not with words. Am I crazy? Probably beyond that by now, but it feels nice to have a companion that lulls you to sleep with it’s protective brilliance. When my eyelids grow heavier I can almost hear a quiet lullaby play in the back of my mind. I can never seem to place the hauntingly beautiful tune, but it remains me of so many happy memories locked behind the walls built by too many years spent around others that can never understand the constant turns of my person. Sometimes I’ve dreamt of floating amongst the stars. Suspended above the world staring down at all that I couldn’t see from where I slept. I’d see all the people and wonder who they were. I’d see all the different places and wonder its history. Each second into my dream left my mind breathless with questions. Question as vast as the stars around me. As the dream comes to a close and I feel myself fall back towards the earth below. I see one more glimpse of the shimmering stars grasping one tightly in my arms as the pull felt stronger and the moment my eyes fly open I can still feel the warmth of the sole star.
